Small Business Advocate Award: Mayor T.M. Franklin Cownie

On November 29, 2017, the United States Conference of Mayors and the Partner America Program recognized Mayor T.M. Franklin Cownie of Des Moines, Iowa, with Des Moine, IA Mayor TM Franklin Cowniethe Small Business Advocate Award for his dedication to the small business community of his city.

A native to Des Moines, Mayor Cownie attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and Iowa State University. He previously served as a member of the Des Moines City Council two years prior to running in the 2004 mayoral election and was then again re-elected in 2007 garnering 80% of the vote. A proponent of small business, Mayor Cownie owns and operates Cownie Furs, a family-owned business that has been in his family for over 110 years.
