Small Business Advocate, Mayor Stephen Benjamin
On October 25, 2017 the United States Conference of Mayors and the Partner America Program bestowed Mayor Stephen Benjamin, of Columbia, South Carolina, the Small Business Advocate Award for his dedication to the small business community of his city.
Mayor Benjamin serves as a pillar of his community dating back to his time as student body president at the University of South Carolina. From there, Mayor Benjamin moved to politics when he was appointed to the Governor’s Cabinet by Governor Jim Hodges in 1999.
As democratic mayor of Columbia, Mayor Benjamin serves to help his community through the efforts of helping small businesses thrive through Small Business Week. Mayor Benjamin also serves as the Second Vice President of the United States Conference of Mayors.

I am so honored to be named the recipient of the Partner America Small Business Advocate Award by the US Conference of Mayors and Partner America.
It is a major focus of our office and the City of Columbia that small, minority and women-owned businesses have all of the resources they need to thrive in our community. I am grateful for the leadership of the US Conference of Mayors and Partner America and look forward to continued partnership.
